Extension Details

iconHow to use this extension

iconWhat it does

The extension adds an item to the right click menu that shows different things depending on what you're right clicking on. Just right click on things like images, links and selected text to find options to copy properly BBCoded stuff into your clipboard ready for posting on any BBCode compatible website like phpBB forums etc.

This extension adds a toolbar to FireFox that shows the latest headlines and also adds context dependant items to the right-click menu in FireFox. The extension will never make a post on your behalf, it just fills in the new topic form for you or copies stuff to the clipboard. You will need to press the "submit" button yourself, and it's always a good idea to press "Preview" first to check out that everything has been structured as you expected and to edit the title or fill in a description where appropriate.

Remember many websites don't allow hotlinking of images on UJ so when posting an image make sure you press preview, then Ctrl-F5 to see if you're about to post a Red-X, Yellow Frog or other anti-hotlinking image. For more information on this technique click here

If you encounter any bugs or situations where the extension does not correctly post the content you were trying to post (other than anti-hotlinking images) then please make sure you report it!

iconThe right-click menu

A lot of the right click menu items will only appear when you're right clicking on the relevant thing in FireFox, like a webpage, image or link

iconBBCode

You can use the extension to copy BBCode to the clipboard ready for posting into threads on UJ (or any other BBCode compliant web page/forum). A simple example of this is to right click on a link as shown in the image below:

bbcode link

This will copy to the clipboard the following BBCode:

[URL=http://uselessjunk.net/viewtopic.php?t=195139]Hottest Romanian model you've never heard of[/URL]

Note that this link copying will work with any link, not just forum links. It'll even work with links that are images.

You can also use this functionality with images or any text you've selected on a webpage. The extension can even do thumbnails or large images using this "Copy to clipboard" menu.

bbcode quote

You can also right click anywhere on a web page to cope the current page to the clipboard as a BBCoded link

iconPost videos to UJ

Posting videos as UJ threads is really easy, even when the videos are hosted on sites such as youtube. Simply go to a webpage with a video on and right-click. The "Videos" menu will be visible and if you expand it you'll see an entry for each video (or embedded music, flash animation etc.) on the page identified by it's filename. Choose the video you want and then continue expanding the menu to choose one of the UJ subforums to post your video in.

posting videos

This works well with most sites, including YouTube, by automatically extracting the embed code needed to make it work on fourms. Remember though to right click on the web page, not the video itself!

iconPost links to UJ

Posting links couldn't be easier. Simply right-click on any link (outside of UJ.net) and choose the "Post link as thread in" option and then choose your subfourm.

iconInstallation

You can install the extension by clicking the install button up above or clicking here: install

Due to the complex load balancing server infrastructure that UJ uses you may face two methods of installation.

If you see the following information bar popup at the top of your firefox window. If you don't see this bar then check out the alternate installation instructions

installation bar

Press the "Edit Options..." button and the following window will pop up

add site dialog Press the "Allow" button, then the "Close" button to allow uj.net to install the extension into your browser automatically. Then finally press the install button or link again. This time the FireFox extension install dialog will popup
extension install Finally press the "Install Now" button and your extension will be installed! Big Grin

iconAlternate installation instructions

If the method above doesn't work for some reason, you may see the following dialog:

alternate install

You can also get this by right-clicking the extension install link and selecting "Save link as...". In either case you can install the extension by choosing to open the extension (ujext.xpi) with FireFox. If you save the file to your disk you can open it in FireFox (Press Ctrl-O and navigate to the file) or just drag and drop it onto FireFox. Once installed the extension becomes part of the browser and you can safely delete the ujext.xpi file.

iconUpdating

The extension will automatically detect updates, however you can manually update it in FireFox by going to the "Tools" menu and selecting "Tools -> Add-ons". This will list all of your installed extensions. You can then right click any of them and select "Find Update".

Alternatively you can just reinstall the extension from this page to force an update.

Sometimes an update may be detected but when you download the update you've still got the same old version. This is caused by the way load balancing works on the UJ servers and will resolve itself after a few hours.
