  • Senate goes nuclear

The Republicans refused to even give Garland a hearing, and they openly said they'd remove the filibuster as soon as it was used. So the dems lost a weapon they can't use in a process that has already become a joke. Not really seeing why y'all are making such a big deal about this as a red line.

If you have a weapon you cannot use you don't have a weapon

It sets a bad precedent IMHO. When the Dims retake control, which they inevitably will, the R's will have no recourse to block/hinder and ensure a moderate Lefty instead of an activist Lefty. Basically, now the Dims can say "You did it, now we will too. Neener neener." when they get the chance.

I don't really see what that big deal is. All they did was reset the rules to what they used to be before Harry Reid fucked with it in order to piss of the Republicans.

It was always a pretty silly rule, either the minority party can block something it strongly disagrees with unless a supermajority overrides, or it can't. Setting self imposed rules requiring a supermajority that can be changed by majority vote really just amounts to a pinky swear. McConnell broke a pinky swear which means by the laws of gods and men he is owed a kick in the balls, but that's not really an enforceable thing under the constitution.

Meh, it is what it is.

Now I can't wait to get Justice Obama confirmed on a 1 vote margin.

              LOL

I don't know why anyone would want that job. Hey, I want to work until I'm 90.
