    I think we are fast approaching point in the US where it will be impossible to recover from our ever increasing divisiveness.
    I don't think people are looking at what is good for the US anymore. It is simply one side versus the other side.
    Both sides have taken a totalitarian approach to how we should live our lives and believe it should be applied to everyone across all 50 states.

    As such I only see a few ways out of this mess -
    1. States begin seceding and writing their own rules free from the central government.
    2. A revamp of the Constitution whereby equal powers are once again invested in the individual states.

    Relevant to point two, I think we could start with two amendments -
    Amend the 14th -
    All persons born of parent(s) legally residing in the United States and territories or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
    No State shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any citizen or legal resident within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws passed by Congress and signed into law by the President.

    This clears the question of citizenship and reigns in some of the power of the Supreme Court.

    Repeal the 17th amendment and limit Senators to two terms. Senators should go back to doing exactly what they were intended to do, which is represent the state as an individual entity.

    I would also include changing VISA regulations -
    Temporary worker H-2A and H-2B VISAs shall be apportioned by the requests of the States and their agencies.

    This negates the federal crap that companies and farmers have to go through to get temporary workers and removes caps set by Congress.

    Amend the Second Amendment and limit citizen gun rights to rifles and shotguns. Begin a progressive draw down on hand guns leading to an eventual ban

      This is ridiculous. So I will add here that Trump has added funding to his budget request for an exclusive, high end minimum security federal prison for people convicted of obstruction of justice, interfering with lawful acts, and money laundering

        That would be a power of the state. Individual states would garner more power to write limitations on the second.
        California, for example, could impose a massively restrictive process to even possess a firearm and ban conceal-carry, while Texas could allow Constitutional Carry (unrestricted).

        But I don't disagree with abolishing the second.

          None of what you propose would work without eliminating the "full faith and credit" clause of Article IV.

          Additionally, how are any "major changes" going to pass in this climate ? Civil War II ? WW III ? A domestic nuclear terrorist attack ?

            Not true. Article IV only guarantees certain rights and privileges that have been historically honored by the courts.

                This is exactly why Coffee made the statement that people are too divided and have become team players for their side and not team players for the good of the nation. You think it's ridiculous because you can only think of your team. You have added nothing useful to the conversation.
