  • Reports: Dallas Cowboys to release QB Tony Romo on Thursday

Tony Romo's career as a Dallas Cowboy is riding into the sunset.

According to multiple reports, the quarterback will be released Thursday, when the NFL's new league year begins.

The Cowboys had hoped to find a trading partner for Romo, but apparently they found no takers for a soon-to-be-37-year-old with a length injury history, which includes a series of back issues that led to Dak Prescott's ascendance in Dallas last season.

Romo was also scheduled to carry a $24.7 million salary cap hit in 2017.

Still, once he becomes a free agent, there is expected to be a market for Romo's services, with the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans among the potential suitors.

Romo has only started 16 games four times in his 14-year career. He re-injured his back in preseason last August and played only one series, during a meaningless Week 17 contest, during the 2016 season. Romo also missed 12 games in 2015 with multiple collarbone injuries.

But when healthy, the four-time Pro Bowler can be an MVP-caliber performer. Though he never won a ring with Dallas, Romo holds most of the franchise's career passing records, bypassing Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach on the statistical front.

Is Houston going to be stupid enough to overpay another QB?

I am going to go with "no". I think that is Romo's camp hoping he can play at home.

Dallas doing the smart thing and playing Denver against Houston to get something in a trade.

Romo is from Wisconsin. Why do you think Houston is home?

You spend a career somewhere you tend to get attached, hell Curt Shilling came up to Massachusetts and settled in right quick.

I'd be surprised if Wilfork doesn't migrate back here.

Home is qualitative to where you were.

I thought I had read that in the last week or two. I sure didn't look any facts up. Where does he live in the off season?
