Interesting reading in Peter Gammons latest column saying the Tigers asked the Cubs for 2 top prospects for Verlander and one Cub official said no one is going to pay $70 million for him.

Cubs GM Epstein has called all 32 teams for pitching and is trying to get younger under control pitchers like the Tigers Fullmer and Norris suggesting that they are more concerned about being competitive over the next few years than repeating in 2017.

Rumor has it that the Tigers are shopping Justin Wilson.
Man, I'd like to see him in a Rangers uniform!

          • Yeah, verlanders contract is gonna be the issue with any trade. While he still can be awfully good he is getting paid cy yong money. I think most any team would love to have him. It would be tough to see him go as he was groomed and developed within the Tigers system and has been their all star workhorse for a decade now. Dude is a probable hall of famer. He could be that missing piece to bolster a staff looking to solidify their rotation. The Tigers will most likely have to agree to take on a portion of the salary for any team to make that move. I would hope the Tigers could get more than prospects for him.

It seems like they would have competition with 15 other teams for a cheap quality lefty reliever.

Since they switched him to being the closer 3 weeks ago he has put up 7 saves.

                • Word on the street is that everyone is interested in Michael Fulmer and not Verlander (not hard to see why). A burgeoning young Ace, potential Cy Young winner and solid workhorse that could be the centerpiece of a rotation. Thats gold, Jerry. GOLD!

Fulmer's mechanics look kind of weird this year. His stats line is impressive but he looks uncomfortable and forced while pitching. It wouldn't surprise me if he has a date coming up with a fellow named Tommy John.

Remember when everyone said the same thing about Max Scherzer years ago? Still going strong with the same violent delivery.

                      • Quintana pays off immediately.

Braves .500 and young and hungry. Next year, but At kk fun this season.

I took a good look at the Braves farm system. They've got a RHP down there named Mike Soroka who looks he might be something. And considering they have already called up Sean Newcomb (that hasn't turned out so well, so far) ... outside of that I'm not seeing much of anything in the pitching department.
Atlanta needs to get aggressive in the market and bring in some pitching while all those young hungry bats are under cheap contracts. (why didn't they go after Quintana or Sonny Gray?)
If Atlanta doesn't make some big moves in pitching they will be a .500 team for years to come.

Max Fried, Kolby Allard, Blair, Soroka, Folty, Newcomb, ( dude almost threw a no hitter a few starts ago) Luis Gohara etc. As well as Teheran, who is cheap for two more years and has been pitching better. All they need is one or two starters and they will be fine. They only have 60 mill on their payroll next year.

With all due repect, the Braves are ranked the no 1 farm sytem in MLB. They are stacked with talent, mostly pitching.

They are .500 now, and just getting started. Of course they will add and arm or two, but they have tons of pitching. .500 for years to come? They may not win it all because they cannot spend like SF, Dodgers etc, but they won't be .500.

                            • As the Braves have gone all-in on the rebuilding front, with the obvious primary goal of funneling players up to a winning big league club, there has been a second clear objective: having the top farm system in all of baseball. Well, after coming in at No. 9 in 2015 and No. 2 a year ago, they can cross that off the bucket list. The Braves now have, according to MLBPipeline.com, the top system in the land.
