  • NFL TO LOOK INTO PRO FOOTBALL ARM WRESTLING CONTEST....

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...ble-violations

I get it, the league has rules against gambling promotions (even though fantasy football is one of the main reasons the league is so popular). But how does an event like this go on for 4 days before they make a statement saying they would have denied approval if they would have been asked permission? They are that out of touch with their own players?

Personally, I don't understand why they care. It's a little hypocritical of the league to have the "no gambling promotions" rule anyways when the league itself was built on sports waging and fantasy football.

Next contracts will include no arm wrestling allowed, like they say no to skiing.

Yeah, like they can say they're against gambling when they approved a franchise for where?

        Exactly.

And unlike skiing, this is more like an endorsement opportunity/charity event than just offseason fun.

Also, some of the proceeds were going to Charity (Giving Back Fund) as well which has a close association to the NFLPA and NFL Trust (retired players arm of NFLPA).

It is just amazing to me that the league would release a statement saying that it was against the rules. They are obviously leaving the door open for suspensions and fines. Just a bad look IMO especially after approving the Vegas bid into the NFL landscape. Just further proof how out of touch the league officials are with reality.
