  • Black Hawks trade Panarin

for Brandon Saad!?!? Wow, that's a head scratcher!! Saad's making 6 million a year, so the move wasn't for a lot of cap space. Did Panarin touch Bowman's wifes ass, or something? Or is Bowman trying to time travel back 3 years?

    I like it.

Panarin is a star offensively, but did nothing in the postseason. He's a one way player that would have been gone in 2 years anyway cause he'll likely demand 8+ mill/year.

Saad is a bigger, two way player that's signed through 20/21. He's also a year younger than Panarin, and gives Toews the winger he needs. Plus he was a monster in the 2015 postseason.

With Hossa done, Saad replaces that loss instantly.

Probably a good move. The BlackCocks are in cap space Hell.

It's what they had to do to remain the class of the league.

That might give Toews a winger, but it takes a valuable winger away from Kane.

Saads cap hit is $6 million, Panarin's cap hit is exactly the same, $6 million. With Hossa going on long term injury, I believe his $5.3 million salary comes off the books. And, with Hjalmarsson's $4.1 million coming off the books, I don't see cap space being a concern for Bowman.

As of right now, Hossa's cap hit counts against them.
I think Kane will be fine without Panarin, though they did feed off each other very well. Obviously it's tough to see someone like him go, but if they waited a year, they'd be left with w nothing in return. The Hawks front office did very well w this move.

Pittsburgh is the class of the league now.
You can attempt to insult all you want, but there's a reason why the Hawks vs Penguins open the season this coming year

They're the two most popular teams in the league and rightfully so.
