  • Report: Dolphins sign QB Jay Cutler

Miami is one less option for Kaepernik now, looks like.

On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins signed quarterback Jay Cutler according to Ian Rapaport of NFL Network. According to Adam Schefter, Cutler deal is one-year for $10 million.

Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said on Saturday that he reached out to Cutler after starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill injured himself on Thursday during practice. Gase was Cutler's offensive coordinator with the Bears back in 2015. The two are close friends as Gase attended Cutler's retirement party back in June.

Chicago released Cutler in March and he decided to join the Fox No. 2 announcing team along with Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis.

Cutler is familiar with Gase's offense so it probably won't be much of a learning curve.

In 15 games in 2015, Cutler threw for 3,659 yards, 21 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. At the league meetings in March, Gase said he still believes Cutler has something to offer an NFL team. Cutler was limted to only five games due to injury, Cutler threw 1,059 yards, four touchdowns against five interceptions.

In March at the league annual meetings, Gase said Cutler still had a lot to offer an NFL team.

"I do, because obviously, my experience with him was very good," Gase said. "I guess I don't get all the hatred towards him. I see a guy that worked hard and did everything he could to try to help his team win and sacrificed his body. To me, he was an athletic quarterback that could throw the ball and when you got to third down, you could call the worst play possible, and he was going to get you the conversion. He made a lot of the things that we did look really good. I guess I just don't get it. I think he has a lot to offer a team. I think he's a starting quarterback in the NFL, but that's just my opinion." ... Source
